Artist’s statement

My preoccupation in painting is really color. How to work with the paint to define and show the contrasts in color that exist in the world around us and in my mind. Also to introduce color to the viewer in a new way, so as to make it an experience in itself. I find that I have to work in layers, putting one transparent film of paint over what has gone before, eventually if I am lucky a painting emerges that evokes an emotion through color alone, even though there are forms in it which serve to anchor the color to the surface of the painting.
